The following is a hand picked collection of some of the best tutorials and walkthroughs on logo design around.  When looking for a great walkthrough I look to see if it contains a few things.

Sketches

Logo design isn’t about using tools in illustrator to come up with a wonderful logo in one shot.  It is the process, the problem solving the trial and error.  You want to see all of this.

Explanation of the Process

When looking for a great logo walktrhough you want to see the thinking behind the process.  How does the designer cope with the challenges during a design?  How does he or she solve theses problems.

Vector Format

If you see a walktrhough and the first step is “start up Photoshop” don’t bother going any further.  Logo design requires vector format in order to be scaled to any size.  Raster images are for pictures, vector images are for logo design.  An exception to this is if the tutorial is centered on creating a logo for the web.

Principles of Design

Does the designer discuss things such as balance, contrast, and color.  The principles of design apply to logo design along with the principles of simplicity and appropriateness etc.

The Design Brief

What is the reason for the creation of the logo.  What is the story behind it and who is it for.  Knowing this can help you judge if the logo was done with the right approach.

The Links

Here are some great tutorials and walkthroughs that contain much of what I outlined above.  You will learn a great deal from these.  Don’t stop just at these links; browse around the sites that they are posted on as well.  There is much more information than what can fit into this post.  Enjoy.
