Why YouTube isn’t the Best Place to Learn Logo Design

What is Logo Design?

Logo design is the graphic design process of using text, iconic imagery, symbolism or a combination of elements to create an identity and a brand for businesses, organizations or people. Logo designers work through a design process of brainstorming, researching, conceptualization and finalizing.  Designers work with their clients to achieve the end result of a logo that properly represents the organization and its services.

When Logos Go Small

We have all seen logos on billboards, in Times Square, plastered on the sides of buildings these are the logos that are hard to miss, they scream for attention and compete with the other big boys on the block for your attention.  But if you think that bigger is the way to go, you would be surprised.

This posts illustrates the importance of planning ahead when it comes to logo design.  When it comes down to it, you really don’t know where a logo will be used.  An old phrase I like is; prepare for the worst hope for the best and it applies to logo design.  When designing a logo it is imperative to keep in mind that the logo you are working on might find its way onto a pen, or on the side of a CD case, you never know.  Be sure to ask your clients where it will be used.  The last thing you want is a client coming back to you over and over again because the logo you designed doesn’t adapt well.

After a few minutes of looking around I found some really tiny logos, and they still have the same effect when they are smaller than a dime as when they are on the side of a building.

First Post

Posted: January 4th, 2010 | Author: anthony | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

It looks pretty empty around here, tons of white space.  Hopefully that will be changing in future as I begin my journey of blogging about design and logo design.  It is pretty intimidating to write a first post.  I mean what do you write about? Obviously something about the topic of your blog.  The way I look at it and the way I have come to start blogs is to just place your fingers on the keyboard and start to type.  Well I think I blabbed on for more than I needed to for a first post.  I hope you come back in the future.  Till then it’s back to work for me!
